The posts targeted were Kranti and Kripan when the Pakistani troops began firing from small arms at around 9:30pm, said the sources adding there was no immediate report of any casualty.

Tonight's ceasefire violation came on a day which marked the ninth anniversary of the Indo-Pak truce which went into force on November 26, 2003.

Pakistani troops had targeted 10 Indian forward posts by firing over 6000 rounds from heavy weaponry along the border in Poonch district on Sunday night.

"Pakistan troops opened heavy fire with Medium Machine Guns and Heavy Machine Guns on 10 Indian forward posts along LoC in Krishnagati sub-sector of Poonch district last night," PRO, defence, SN Acharya said.

They fired over 6,000 rounds of MMGs and HMGs from 7:40pm to 11:45pm, he said, adding "it was heaviest firing by Pakistani troops on Indian posts this year".

There was no loss of life or damage to property in the firing, he said.
