"About 32 witnesses are scheduled to record their statements before the commission during the period, while nine deponents have been examined on first day," government counsel to the commission JC Dash said.

The commission has received 488 affidavits relating to 2007 Kandhamal riots and already 180 among them had been examined.

In many cases, the response of the deponents was not encouraging as many of them did not attend the commission despite repeated approaches, Dash said.
