Parents lead villagers in disowning killers

The nine men arrested for murdering 28 persons in Gurgaon since January 2006 will not be allowed to enter their village and villagers will offer them no help when they are tried for the deaths, under a social boycott plan endorsed by the killers’ families.

“We have decided to disown the murderers for bringing disrepute to the place. No one from the village will render any kind of support — moral or financial — to them. No advocate from the village will take up their case in court,” said Nirmala Devi, sarpanch of Bhora Kalan village, home to the killers.

The decision on Saturday by the village panchayat had the support of the entire village, including the families of the murderers, who feel the nine men had given a bad name to the “village, known for the sacrifice of its boys in the armed forces”.

Omkar, father of Mukesh who is one of the killers, termed as right the decision to boycott the nine men. “I respect the panchayat decision and support it as well. My son and his other accomplices deserve stern punishment. We should all boycott them socially. Nobody from our family would ever go to the police lock-up where they are lodged," he said.

Rohtash alias Langoor, Lalit alias Littar, Mukesh alias Ghassar and Pramod alias Bhuria and Ravi were arrested on November 6. Vikram alias Vicky alias Kanchi and Harkesh alias Julfi were arrested on November 8, while two more youths, Danny alias Dalchand and Bhudhu alias Bhudhram were arrested on Thursday.

All are aged between 18 and 28.

Since the arrests, police patrolling in the village has been intensified, villagers are being questioned and markets close after 8 pm.
