As resentment over steep fee hike effected by the private schools spread further in Gurgaon, about 1,000 parents of the students of Delhi Public School (DPS) today sought explanation from school authorities on the one-time Rs. 12,000 arrears and the monthly fee hike of Rs. 750 slapped on them by school authorities.
However, after the school principal refused outright to roll back the decision on the arrears and the fee hike even by a rupee, enraged parents decided to meet in the Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29 on Sunday evening to decide a course of action against the hike.
The options could include forming a parents association, challenging the school decision in court or launching a street agitation, the parents said.
Parents, who included multi-national corporation (MNC) executives, traders, exporters, technocrats and professionals. held a 90-minute-long meeting with the school authorities in the jam-packed DPS auditorium in Sector 45.
Most parents expressed their resentment against the school for slapping the one-time fee of Rs. 12,000 which the school authorities said was to meet out the extra financial burden of paying arrears to their staffers with effect from January 1, 2006.
“Why should the students who have been admitted this or last year bear the burden of arrears. The school authorities should charge the arrears from the students who have passed out. The fee hike is also very steep and the majority of the parents are not in position to bear the burden,” said an enraged parent.

{{/usCountry}}“We are bound to follow the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission and pay our staff arrears from 2006. In addition to monthly salary increase of Rs. 39 lakhs for the existing staff, we also need to pay arrears of Rs. 5.3 crores for the staffers including teachers. It is impossible for us to roll back on our decision on arrears or fee hike,” said Aditi Misra, the school principal.
