Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday tried to set the tone of the two day BJP conclave here saying that the party was ‘supreme’ and the government was just a ‘tool’ to achieve the objectives of the organisation.
Addressing national office bearers and state presidents of the party, Modi also lauded organisation’s efforts to enrolling 10 crore members and set out a target for the BJP leaders to convert these ‘members into workers’. His remarks have been interpreted as a show of support to party chief Amit Shah, whose style of functioning has been questioned within party circles.
“These 10 crore members are owners of the BJP,” the PM added.
Modi also equated Jan Sangh ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhay with Gandhi and socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia, a father figure for many regional parties of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. “There is not much difference in the thinking of these three leaders. All of them spoke about the last man in the queue,” Modi said.
The PM also about schemes like Jan Dhan Yojna, Beti Bachao and Swachch Bharat that his government launched after coming to power. He asked the party to popularise these schemes and set the target of dedicating 10,000 of the total 10 crore members exclusively for the Swachch Bharat campaign.
