With the commencement of the new session, the surrounding areas of most DU colleges will undergo a makeover. Not only will motorists find it hard to station their vehicles outside girls' colleges, but autorickshaw drivers, too, will find it hard to pick up passengers from college gates.
The University has taken steps to station police patrol vehicles outside girls' colleges. These can be found patrolling the length of north and south campus, as well.
"We have made sure that there are police patrol vehicles that monitor colleges like JMC, Maitreyi and LSR through their working hours during the admission season and otherwise," said Dinesh Varshney, deputy dean of students welfare, south campus.
The Delhi Police too, has stepped in to help DU beef up security for students during peak college hours. "Girls colleges are an area of prime focus for the police in order to prevent any cases of eve-teasing or any other serious incident. We deploy PCR vehicles during opening and closing hours in colleges through the year. During admissions, additional patrols will be deployed in all colleges," said Amulya Patnaik, JCP (south range).
DU has also asked students to be vigilant when they move within and outside colleges and in other public places, through the academic session.
