The move has upset thousands of passengers because the airline, along with its low-cost subsidiary, caters to more than one-fourth of the domestic fliers in the country.

“It is surprising and shocking that the airline is charging passengers for small services such as this one,” said Jay Bhatia, western region chairman of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI). He added that as most passengers use smart phones, very few carry e-ticket printouts to the airport. “If the airline charges for a printout in this e-age, times are not far when they will charge passengers for using toilets onboard flights,” he said.

Jet Airways is the only domestic airline to have hiked its excess baggage charges and its rebooking charges in the past two months.

Bhumra said most business travellers didn’t bother to collect e-ticket prints because business trips were planned in a hurry.

Air travel has already become expensive with the increase in service tax and busy airports such as Mumbai and Delhi charging development fees from passengers.

“Passengers just need to show their Passenger Name Record (PNR) number to enter the airport. But here every small expenditure for airlines and airport operators is passed on to passengers,” said Vishal Patel another frequent flier.
