Chidambaram visited Bangalore on Friday, reviewed an army commando unit he had given the state and promised a 600-strong specialised Special Forces Battalion for the state by the month-end.
But he did not meet the CM, who had preferred to tour his constituency than meet the home minister on March 7 for a security review. Instead, he issued a statement telling the people of Karnataka that the Centre had kept its word and located a specialised counter-terrorist force in the state capital.
