Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday expressed shock over "racist remarks ascribed to Waqar Younis" after a deal to hire the former captain as the national team's fast bowling coach fell through.

"PCB has been shocked at the racist remarks ascribed to Waqar Younis and believes that he has been misquoted. As a former captain of Pakistan and a highly respected cricketer, he could not have uttered the base remarks normally associated with uneducated minds," the PCB said in a statement after the entire local media published Younis' strongly worded reaction.
"But what has saddened me more is the attitude of the Pakistan Cricket Board. I never initiated the move of a bowling coach for the Pakistan cricket team. It was the PCB that started it all and when they decided they didn't want me, they did not have the courtesy to telephone me and inform me of their decision," Younis had said on Thursday.
The PCB on Thursday dropped the idea of appointing Younis as the bowling coach on a long-term basis after an ad hoc committee meeting held at the National Stadium in Karachi.
