"Decision to close Srinagar airport once again reflects that state government has failed to protect interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," PDP General Secretary Mohammad Dilawar Mir said in a statement in Srinagar.

Srinagar airport which handles a dozen flights daily is to be closed for air traffic from September one for at least 15 days for runway repair work.

Terming the decision to close the airport as "unwise", Mir said this will lead to inconvenience to a large number of people. He said instead of closing the airport, the authorities should do the work in a phased manner to avoid "harassment" of the common people.
