"With fresh resolve, the PDP will pursue its self-rule agenda to usher in peace, stability and prosperity in the state," PDP patriach Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said in Srinagar.

He was speaking at a function where former National Conference MLA Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Mir along with hundreds of his supporters joined the PDP which had increased its tally in the state assembly from 16 to 21 in the just-concluded poll.

Thanking the masses for reposing their faith in his party, the PDP patron said it was now "our responsibility" to protect their interests.

The foremost and challenging task to herald peace and prosperity in the state still remained unaccomplished, the former Chief Minister lamented.

He said his party would vigorously pursue its pro-people agenda while sitting in the Opposition.

The PDP also favoured safe passage for youths who wanted to come back from across the border and live peacefully here, he said.
