The Tibetan Cabinet (Kashag) issued an appeal on Monday to exiled Tibetans asking them to desist from violence during the 2008 Beijing Olympic torch relay in India.
The guideline issued in February said: “Resorting to violent means by the Tibetans, which are against the law and cause embarrassment to the people and the government of India, must not be allowed.”
“His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, has supported that China, as the world’s most populous nation should be given the right to host the Olympic Games.”
The Cabinet also tried to convince the people on the opinion expressed by the Dalai Lama on the Beijing Olympics. “His Holiness has regularly stated that the Olympic Games in China must be held successfully without any hindrance, since the event is being long awaited by the Chinese with great pride and happiness.”
Tibetan officials disclosed to HT that the appeal has been issued in the wake of protest staged against Chinese leaders, particularly during the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao, when hundreds of Tibetans resorted to violent protest on the streets of India.

{{/usCountry}}Similar kind of protest were staged during the visit of Chinese premier Wen Jiabao few years ago. “We don’t want that Tibetan people get engaged in confrontation with the police. This not only damages the image of the Tibetan community but brings a bad name to India,” said Tibetan Cabinet Secretary Migyur Dorjee.
