CBI director Ranjit Sinha has said that the visitors’ diary purportedly showed the arrival of visitors at his 2 Janpath residence even when he was away, as confirmed by an official register that recorded his movements as a Z-category protectee.
In his Friday affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court, Sinha said that since he is a Z-category protectee, the Delhi police provided his security cover. As per the rules, a register is maintained to record his movements while another official register logs attendance of the security personnel. “The director pointed out that the visitors’ diary showed the arrival of visitors at his residence even when his movements’ register said he was away,” said the source.
Sinha submitted his affidavit after the apex court had directed him on September 8 to file a response to the application of an NGO, the Centre for Public Interest and Litigation’s (CPIL), which had asked the court to remove him from supervising the 2G-spectrum probe in the wake of allegations that he met several executives from companies under investigation in the case.
When contacted, the CBI director’s lawyer Vikas Singh told HT, “We will request the court to issue directions for commencement of perjury proceedings against the petitioners for making false statements.”

{{/usCountry}}Sinha’s affidavit also mentioned that the visitors’ diary had recorded visitors during April 8-13 across pages 57 to 60 even though his residence was then empty — Sinha and his wife were in Europe, his son in Netherlands and daughter in Chhattisgarh, said the source. Further, it also referred to the fact that the visitors’ diary had listed several vehicles’ registration numbers that were allegedly fake.
