CHIEF SECRETARY A K Vijayavargiya said that the mass uprising against the Naxalites in the Bastar region, if succeeded, would lead to permanent peace in the State.
Talking to media persons here on Sunday, Vijayavargiya informed that as many as 250 villages were presently involved in the anti-naxal movement–Salva Judum. “The movement has provided a unique example for other naxal infested states of the nation”, said the Chief Secretary.
According to him, 172 families, who had migrated because of naxal threat to their lives, are presently living in seven relief camps set up in the Bastar region. He stated that a helicopter had been demanded from the Centre for countering the ultras’ onslaught. To a query on implementing the Commissioner system in the State, Vijayavargiya said that due to shortage of IAS officials in Chhattisgarh, the Commissioner system was not presently feasible.
“However, when the State has requisite strength of officials, the government can give a thought to it”, he said further adding that in place of the Commissioner system the state is continuing with the secretary in-charge of the districts for maintaining administrative control and effecting functioning.
He told newsmen that 76 percent of the applicants received during the Gram Su-raj Abhiyan had been considered and resolved till date. It may be noted that 2.57 lakh applications were received during the abhiyan, which was held in early May.
All the applications were supposed to be disposed within the period of two months. He informed that the negotiation was on with various private airlines operators towards establishing air-links from the state capital Raipur to important destinations of the country.
