Pete Doherty voted anti-icon of the year

The Babyshambles frontman has been voted the most undeserving icon of 2006 in an Arena magazine poll.

Troubled rocker Pete Doherty has been voted the most undeserving icon of the year.

Over 1,000 readers of Arena voted the Babyshambles frontman as the personality least worthy of their celebrity status in an online poll.

The 27-year old is rarely out of the headlines thanks to his high-profile relationship with model Kate Moss and his battle against drug addiction.

He has also been in news for his failure to perform at gigs and assaulting a journalist.

Comedian and radio presenter Russell Brand came second in the list.

The Apprentice's Syed Ahmed, Conservative party leader David Cameron and sofa-jumping Tom Cruise make up the rest of the top five.

"We asked our readers to pick those people who have consumed the headlines and defined the last year for all the wrong reasons," BBC quoted

Arena editor William Drew as saying.

"Pete Doherty was voted the anti-icon of the year with 38% of the vote thanks to his drug habit which has popularised junkie chic and earned him
