The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which filed a chargesheet in the Ghaziabad Provident Fund (PF) scam on July 3, has recommended action against 24 judges/judicial officers.
The CBI has charge-sheeted 78 people, including six former judges, in the case.
The names of 36 judges/judicial officers had cropped up after prime accused Ashutosh Asthana named them in his confession in April 2008.
Asthana had alleged they were the beneficiaries in the Rs 6.58-crore PF scam. Asthana had died under mysterious circumstances at Dasna Jail in October 2009.
In its chargesheet submitted at the CBI Special Court on July 3, the agency charged six former judges, R.P. Mishra, R.P. Yadav, R.N. Mishra, A.K. Singh, R.S. Chaubey and Arun Kumar, for criminal conspiracy, under Prevention of Corruption Act.
The CBI has stated that the total fraud amounts to nearly Rs. 6.58 crore. A CBI official told Hindustan Times that 47 judges and judicial officers were questioned during the course of investigation into the scam.
The CBI chargesheet stated that investigations were also conducted for allegations on several other judges/judicial officers who were alleged to be beneficiaries of the scam-amount. However, for want of ‘sufficient evidence’, their names were not recommended for prosecution.

“A CBI report has been sent to competent authorities for appropriate action against them for various acts of omission and commission on part of 24 judges/judicial officers,” the charge-sheet stated.
