On Saturday, HT tried to contact 30 PCR vans on their respective mobile numbers and found 22 numbers non-functional. Noida and Greater Noida are under the jurisdiction of the Gautam Budh Nagar police.

The district police have 72 PCR vans. Of these, 50 vans have been given to them by the Noida authority. Each PCR van has got a mobile connection so that people can reach them in emergency situations. These numbers are printed on the vans and circulated to localities in which patrol.

According to police officials, most of the mobile numbers of these PCR vans are affected due to non-payment of bills. "Yes, we are having some problems with the CUG numbers. Many phone lines are affected," said Praveen Kumar, senior superintendent of police.

The mobile numbers of the PCR vans have been selected in a serial order starting with 8800199901. PCR number 1 has a mobile number ending with 01, PCR number 2 has the last two digits 02, and so on.
