The shortage of domestic helps due to the rising number of nuclear families in the Millennium City has forced placement agencies to hunt for candidates in neighbouring villages.
Many agencies have started sending human resource professionals to villages. The recruiters offer salary up to R10,000 per month to woo villagers, mostly women, to work as domestic helps in the city’s posh condominiums.
“We have placed a woman at a salary of Rs 15,000 for the job of a nanny, while a cook-cum-household servant was also placed at the same salary,” said Raghu Ramaiya, manager of Doemsteq Services Solutions, a placement agency.
The “recruitment drives” are carried out at Chakkarpur, Nathupur, Tikli and Tigra. Women are hired and trained before being interviewed by their prospective employers.
The module of training depends on the job role for a servant. The would-be nannies are taught to maintain hygiene and cut their nails, while cooks are taught to stay clean-shaven, among other things. Different skills are taught as per the employer’s requirement.
“They are given orientation of a proper code of conduct, wherein they are made to face several mock situations such as the one when a servant sees a wallet in a room in everyone’s absence,” he adds.
Recently, a middle-aged couple shifted to Gurgaon’s Malibu town from Delhi because of the proximity to their workplaces. They hired a help at a handsome salary as both are working and there is no one to cook food or to do household chores.
