The Business Advisory Committee of the Rajya Sabha had witnessed demands from the BJP that such a resolution should be made like the resolution on Jammu and Kashmir and Iraq.

The Left parties have been advocating that Parliament set parameters on foreign policy through a resolution within which a government could operate.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister PR Dasmunsi said that if there was need, there could be discussion in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on the Prime Minister's statement.

The move has come at a time when the Left is voicing increasing concern over the deal accusing Washington of "changing goalposts". Some experts have also expressed reservations in view of new conditionalities sought to be imposed by the US.
