“I AM not sick. There was this minor cold but now I am fully fit.” This was Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav at the inauguration of Indo-Pak poetic symposium organised in memory of Jigar Moradabadi on Tuesday evening. The CM remarked thus after the coordinator of the mushaira said that the CM could make it to the function despite being sick.
Yadav, also said that if India and Pakistan were to join hands, they would become world beaters. “Take our cricket teams for instance. If the cricket teams of India and Pakistan were to unite, they would be invincible,” he said.
Yadav, confessed that he himself wasn’t a great fan of Cricket. He, however, felt that the game could play an important role in cementing ties between the warring neighbours. “I think poets too have a great role in bringing people together,” he said. Yadav charged both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf of not doing enough to promote peace in the sub-continent. “The present peace talks are just a façade.
The CM stayed at the poetic symposium for around two hours. He listened to poets like Rahat Indauri, Waseem Barelvi, Dr Naseem Nikhat, Suman Dube etc. Later, senior minister Ahmad Hasan stayed till the end. Poets also praised the CM for working towards the cause of Urdu.
Mansoor Usmani, working president of Jigar Moradabadi Foundation, who conducted the mushaira took a potshot at the political double speak with “Tang aakar hum ghalat bayani se, hum alag ho gaye kahani se.” Agriculture Production Commissioner, Anis Ansari's verses like, “hunar kaise dikhe darbar main jab kam nigahi ho” and “suna tha kadra karta hai zamana ahle-imaa ki, magar ussey bhi accha hai, acchi kamai ho” too were very well received.

However, the limelight was on two senior poets, Malikzada Mansoor and Gopal Das Neeraj. Malikzada Mansoor's verses like, “Chand Lamhat mein kar deti subahein roshan, naat ki, hamd ki, puja ki, bhajan ki khushboo” and “jab kabhi gore-gariban se gujar mera hua, mujhko mahsoos hui apne kafan ki khushboo” received an encouraging response. Gopal Das Neeraj's verses like, “samay ne jab bhi andheron se dosti ki hai, jala ke apna hi ghar hamne roshni ki hai” and “suboot hai mere ghar mein dhuein ke ye dhabbe, kabhi yahan par ujalon ne roshni ki hai” won applause.
