Haryana Police has registered nine cases against members of the Gujjar community for agitating for their inclusion in the Schedule Tribes' list and arrested 69 for allegedly indulging in violence.
In an affidavit filed on Thursday in response to Supreme Court's suo motu notice on Gujjar violence, Director General of Haryana Police Ranjiv Singh Dalal said three FIRs had been filed in Kaithal while two FIRs each were registered in Faridabad and Panipat. FIRs were also registered in Yamunanagar and Gurgaon, he added.
Terming the violence as a "national shame", a bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat had on June 5 directed the police of Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to submit reports within 10 days detailing the action taken/proposed against those damaging properties during agitations.
