The district police on wednesday raided the residence of a sitting MP and Samajwadi Party leader Brij Bhushan Saran Singh in Lucknow, for his alleged involvement in a land grabbing case.
"A case of land grabbing was registered against Brij Bhusan on Tuesday night, who is a Member of the Parliament from Balrampur constituency, after which his house in Laxmanpuri was raided. However, the MP was not found," a senior police officer said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Uday Pratap Singh, secretary of Laxmanpuri Residents' Welfare Association, met the Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh and charged the MP for grabbing land including a tubewell in the locality.
On the directives of the DGP, a case of land grabbing was registered against Brij Bhushan at Ghazipur police station on Tuesday night, they said.
A police team on Wednesday led by additional Superintendent of Police (trans-gomti) and circle officer raided the MP's residence but found it locked, the officer said.
Priest of a temple located within the MP's residence told the police that Brij Bhushan had left for his parliamentary constituency on wednesday morning.
