The Konkan Railway (KR) on Friday claimed that not a single passenger had ever fallen from a train that moves on this route and died on the tracks.
The claim was made by KR's public relations officer Baban Ghatge today when he was called to the Mapusa police station to answer some questions in connection with the death of Russian national Elena Sukhovas on May 8. "I was called to the police station in view of my comments to the media, where I had made a general statement that the death (Elena's) could not be accidental, Ghatge told PTI.
"There has been not a single incident in the history of Konkan Railway, where a person has fallen from a train and died on the tracks," the railway official said.
Police initially tried to dismiss Elenas death as an accident case after falling down from a train but the railway officials' statement has cast a doubt on police's theory.
