Talking to media persons, he said the report had suggested a cut on too many taxes on petroleum products. Petroleum prices could be controlled if this were done. But, he alleged, the government was in no mood to take to this recourse.

He accused the Central government of making no attempt to reduce the financial burden of the taxpayers.

He said the country’s agriculture policy needed a fresh thinking. He alleged a conspiracy was being hatched to mortgage the agriculture sector to foreign hands. Commenting on the low yield of wheat in the country, he said it was because of the faulty policy of the Central government. He said it was disturbing to know that farmers were losing interest in agriculture. He said the BJP working committee would deliberate on this issue in its meeting on May 29 and 30.

Dr Joshi said constitutional provisions in respect of reservation was acceptable.

However, implementation should be in a manner so that the benefit reached the man standing on the lowest rung. Poverty, he said, was also an index of backwardness and, therefore, the poor from other communities should also be accommodated. He said there shouldn’t be reservation on basis of religion.

Moreover, more avenues should be opened for higher education, technical education and medical education. This was the responsibility of the government, Joshi said.
