Political activity gaining momentum in city

WITH THE release of notification for civic elections in the state, all major political parties have geared up to mobilise support for upcoming Varanasi Nagar Nigam elections. As per notification of State Election Commission, the polling of 12 municipal corporations, including Varanasi Nagar Nigam, would be held on October 31 in the second phase while nomination process would be held between October 3 and 6 and counting of votes is slated for November 6.

WITH THE release of notification for civic elections in the state, all major political parties have geared up to mobilise support for upcoming Varanasi Nagar Nigam elections.

As per notification of State Election Commission, the polling of 12 municipal corporations, including Varanasi Nagar Nigam, would be held on October 31 in the second phase while nomination process would be held between October 3 and 6 and counting of votes is slated for November 6.

Congress city president Rais Ahmed claimed that his party would win 40 seats in the total 90 seats in Varanasi Nagar Nigam election. He said that Congress would give tickets to those party members who were active and associated with ground level.

He said that all the formalities for preparing list of candidates have been completed and names of the candidates would be declared soon.

He further added that issues like poor power supply, dilapidated condition of roads, anti-encroachment drive without proper rehabilitation and improper sanitation would be raised in the election campaign.

Bharatiya Janata Party city president Kailash Keshari said that BJP would secure 40 to 45 seats out of the total 90 seats in VNN. He further added that list of candidates has been finalised and would be declared soon.

Keshari said that issues like poor power and water supply, dilapidated condition of roads, price hike and development works would be raised by BJP in the Varanasi Nagar Nigam elections.               

The leaders of Samajwadi Party (SP) are confident that his party would win more than 50 seats out of the total 90 seats in civic election in Varanasi.

Samajwadi Party city president Rakesh Jain said that the development works of Samajwadi Party government would be highlighted in the civic elections.

Similarly, Bahujan Samaj Party also claimed to win more seats in civic body election. The final list of candidates of Varanasi Nagar Nigam elections would be declared soon.

The newly-formed political party, Jan Morcha will also contest election in all the seats of Varanasi Nagar Nigam. City president of Jan Morcha, Shashi Pratap Singh, said that names of party candidates would be declared soon.
