Political parties crack the whip on rebels

POLITICAL PARTIES have taken tough steps in a bid to put an end to infighting and maintain discipline during the local bodies? election here. The Bharatiya Janata Party has suspended former Ramnagar Palika Parishad chairperson Asha Gupta from the party for contesting the election to the post as an Independent candidate against the party?s official candidate Pushpa Rani Gupta.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has suspended former Ramnagar Palika Parishad chairperson Asha Gupta from the party for contesting the election to the post as an Independent candidate against the party’s official candidate Pushpa Rani Gupta.

The party has expelled other rebels. They include Triloki Jaiswal (ward number 41), Pushpa Dey (ward number 35), Omprakash Chaurasia (ward number 60), Ashok Maurya (ward number 33), Jhujhadu Yadav (ward number 9), Usha Tiwari (ward number 74) and Ananad Singh Bunty (ward number 40). Expelled party worker Shardananad Pandey was the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahaman Mandal president.

The other expelled party workers are Vijay Verma whose mother is contesting the election from the Nai Basti area (ward number 64). Kishan Kannaujia was suspended from the BJP because he allowed his wife to contest the election from the Birdopur area. Ramesh Tiwari was also suspended because his wife Usha Devi was a corporator candidate.

Former Varansi mayor Amar Nath Yadav’s son Ashok Yadav is contesting the mayoral election as a candidate of Uma Bharti’s Bharatiya Janshakti Party.

The Samajwadi Party is facing infighting. Election in-charge and state minister Ram Govind Chaudhary has directed all rebel candidates to ensure support to the party’s authorized candidate, or face action. There are reports of differences among Congress workers.
