New national encryption policy clarified, but do you trust the government will not interfere with your private online data?

The climb down by the government came following a storm of protests from users who objected to any stringent state controls on the way people use their emails, social media accounts and apps.

India doesn’t have an exclusive policy on digital encryption, or methods by which data is kept secure on the internet. The draft was brought into place to address this legislative vacuum. It cites ‘concerns of national security’ to justify its stringent proposals.

It remains to be seen now whether the bucks stops here or if the government will introduce more steps to invade privacy in the name of 'national security'.
