The Pakistani militant was caught on Wednesday after he and an accomplice ambushed a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, killing two soldiers in the encounter. The other militant was gunned down by security forces.

In an exclusive, Hindustan Times spoke with a Pakistan-based man who identified himself as the “unfortunate father” of the attacker.

Islamabad, however, has rejected the Indian government's assertion that Naveed is a Pakistani national because his name was not on the database.
