CELEBRITY ACTRESS of yesteryears Poonam Dhillon, who shot into fame with her roles in Noori, Sohni Mahiwal and Trishul still desires of returning to the big screen though she is not averse to taking roles on the small screen also.

“I still have offers of variety of roles on big and small screen but I am looking forward towards a good role.”

“I want to take such a role on big screen which does not disappoint my fans.

Despite growing popularity of TV, there is wide scope of movies, as they are a powerful medium of giving messages to the public,” she said.

Talking to Hindustan Times on Friday, she said there was a wide scope of films as the theaters were being given a face-lift with multiplexes coming up throughout the country. She also indicated to perform in Bhojpuri films.

She gives credit to S Chopra for her success in Bollywood. It was S Chopra who groomed me at the tender age of 17 in. At that time, I did not know even how to apply lipstick properly.

Speaking over her future plans, the actress said, she was willing to work for the hapless street children of Mumbai in association with some corporate houses and an NGO of Britain, ‘ Princess Foundation’.

“The motto of the project is to associate these children with main stream of society so that they may not turn into thieves and criminals at a later stage,” Poonam said.

She has also worked for the Tsunami victims with another NGO.

She did not rule out the possibility of coming into active politics. She said a social worker could serve the society in a good manner by becoming a public representative.

“A social worker has to often meet the administrative officials and ministers for the benefit of the masses. If such a person becomes the public representative, he can mount pressure on the concerned authorities for implementation of various social service schemes,” Poonam said.

Several political parties use the Bollywood artistes to pull crowds. But stars should not be used only as crowd-pullers but their active participation in politics is also must.

Later, on Saturday morning, she inaugurated ‘Sakhi’, an outlet of sarees in Kabira Complex of Jalan Textiles at Durgakund.
