Television channel CNN-IBN accessing the Ram Pradhan Committee report has said there was a lack of overt and visible leadership and of equipment and training in the Mumbai police’s response to the 26/11 terror attacks.
The Pradhan report, which has not yet been tabled in the Maharashtra legislature with the government submitting only an action taken report, also reportedly rules out any conspiracy behind the deaths of top police officers Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar, saying their decision to travel together was a sudden one and that their meeting was by chance.
The Press Trust of India report quoted Pradhan as saying: “I have no comments. I am also watching the TV channel.”
The Pradhan report, said CNN-IBN, did not specifically name any police officer for serious lapses though Hasan Gafoor, who was then the commissioner of police, was criticised without being named.
Joint Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria was praised for his handling of the control room and special mention was made of younger police officers, CNN-IBN said. Hindustan Times has accessed call logs of the Mumbai police control room that paint of picture of confusion reigning during the initial hours of the attack.
