A day after recording an all-time high demand of 5,462 MW on Thursday, the demand for electricity touched 5,236 MW during the day on Friday. This figure was recorded at 3.04 pm.

"Though the demand was less as compared to yesterday, the city fell short in supplying 307 MW due to non-availability of electricity. This lead to power cuts in some areas of the Capital," said a senior Delhi Transco official.

Power department officials attributed the decrease in demand for power on the improved weather condition. "The weather has improved today, but if it becomes hot again, the situation will worsen," added the official.

Besides the demand, maintenance work being carried out by Transco is leading to power-cuts in areas such as CGO Complex, Vasant Vihar, South Extension, India Habitat Centre, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar and others.
