Dismissing any chances of major blackouts in the valley, the power development authorities, however, maintain that there would be some gap in demand and supply, if the crisis continued.

“We have isolated our grid system and are generating our own power from power houses like Lower Jhelum, Uri, Upper Sindh and Baghliar. All our essential services like hospitals and airport were running,” said Chief Engineer, System & Operation Wing Kashmir, Sheikh Gul Ayaz.

Kashmir has a capacity to generate 700 MW of power from local power houses. “Our demand is of 900 MW and our local power houses can generate up-to 700 MW when connected to the northern grip. This time we are running our power plants in isolation, still we were managed to generate 450 MW today when the grid tripped again,” Ayaz said. “By 6 pm we restored all the supply across the valley,” he revealed.

On Monday the power authorities in valley had isolated the power projects after the failure of northern grid immediately restoring around 340 MW power supply to run essential services like hospitals and educational institutions.
