Frequent power cuts during summer have changed the way people live in this Millennium City. While many residents of plotted areas have been shifting to gated communities for 100% power back-up, several others are finding solace in shopping malls in daytime.
Divya Kesvan and her family have shifted out of their South City 1 duplex to Vipul Greens on Sohna Road this summer as the inverter and battery set up at their home is unable to provide relief.
“The battery cannot recharge due to long power cuts. We cannot store water in our tanks without electricity. Living in a plotted are is terrible during summer season,” Kesvan said.
Similarly, Vijay Golecha who shifted out of South City Palm Court in 2006 into a house has now shifted back to JMD Greens on Sohna Road to take respite from the heat of summer.
“No matter how hard the electricity department tries to solve the problem the demand supply gap is too large to fill and it increases every year,” Golecha said. Many residents move out of their homes and prefer to spend the whole day in air-conditioned shopping malls.
Manisha Kumar of DLF Phase 3 said, “We often go to malls during daytime as the electricity supply is very erratic. We don’t know when the electricity will come back once it's gone.”
