Power situation likely to improve in the city

LINKING UP the new power substation of Grid Corporation of India at Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authorities (GIDA) has raised hopes that the bleak power scenario in the district may slightly improve. This is likely to solve the problem of overloading at 132 KVA Barhuan power substation and check line tripping, which should certainly improve the power situation.

It is to be noted that the double circuit power substation of Grid Corporation at GIDA, having capacity of 400 KVA, was linked up with Muzaffarpur, Bihar, 400 KVA line on Saturday. At the same time it also linked up northeastern and western grid successfully.

According to executive engineer transmission, SN Pandey, this would increase the flow of current in the circle. Now around 55000 to 60000 MW electricity would circulate in the grid instead of 24000 electricity.

The impact of in-linking of grids and the substation was visible, as the power rostering hours in the district had been reduced. The city is no longer facing late night power rostering for the last four days. The frequency scenario of grid has also improved according to the departmental sources.

Sources said the situation may further improve once power supply from Bhutan under Tala Hydropower project begins. Indian and Bhutan governments have signed an agreement to launch a project worth Rs 62 crore under which Tala, a city in Bhutan, would be connected with Delhi, Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The Grid Corporation has established power substations at Punia, Silliguri, Muzaffarpur and Gorakhpur to complete the project.
