The Maharashtra State Power Distribution Company Limited on Wednesday disconnected electricity supply of several government offices, including the office of deputy collector, district rehabilitation office, water supply department and the PWD offices in neighbouring Chandrapur for failure to pay outstanding bills.
The MSEDCL, however, did not disconnect power supply of district collector office that has unpaid electricity bill of over Rs 1.5 lakh in view of coming elections. The MSEDCL officials warned the district collectorate authorities that if they fail to pay the amount within the next two days, they too would face the music. "We have given the relaxation to the collectorate on an assurance by the concerned officials of paying the amount in the next two days," informed MSEDCL junior engineer PS Thakre.
According to him, among the major defaulters were: the water supply department which owes Rs 1.32 lakh, while an outstanding of Rs 43,000 and Rs 24,000 were recovered from deputy collector (anti-encroachment) and PWD departments, respectively.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Pradeep Kalbhoor, the district collector of Chandrapur, admitted that the MSEDCL officials came to his office on Wednesday to disconnect the power supply. "This is a trivial issue and we have sorted out," he said and informed that his office would pay the outstanding soon.
