Despite an agreement between the authority and farmers two days ago, about 4,000 farmers of 11 villages in Noida have refused to relent.

These are the farmers whose land was acquired before 1997. The authority started making allotment of developed land plots, measuring 5% of the total land acquired, after 1997.

These farmers have called a mahapanchayat at Chhalera on Tuesday to press for their demand of 5% plots. And the authority has blinked.

“Before 1997, we used to provide 17.5% reservation to farmers in housing plot allotment schemes irrespective of the size of farmers' land acquired. Now those whose land was acquired before 1997 are also seeking plots measuring 5% of their land acquired. This cannot be done. But we will do something about it.” The chairman said “left-over” plots are being located where these farmers will get allotment. “We’re also mulling allotting flats in apartment buildings to these farmers,” the chairman said.
