PREPARATIONS ARE in full swing for Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s public meeting on the Government Inter College grounds here on March 28.
Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi may be present at the meeting.
A Special Protection Group team has already visited the venue.
Party activists are working round the clock under the supervision of Sonia Gandhi’s representatives Kishori Lal Sharma and Manoj Mattoo to make the meeting a grand success.
Rae Bareli Congress workers have coined a new slogan, “Sonia Gandhi ki pehchan, tyag tapsya aur balidan”.
A new poster shows Sonia Gandhi on a horse, like Rani Laxmi Bai.
The English rendering of the message on the poster is: “Sonia you are great, you are the pride of Rae Bareli. Earlier you renounced the post of Prime Minister, now you have resigned from Lok Sabha and from the chairpersonship of National Advisory Council. Your work gives the message of service and high ideals.” The poster further says, “Your action has been a slap on the face of politicians who indulge in dirty politics of religion, caste and creed.”
The poster also quotes. Sonia Gandhi: “I am not in politics and public life for any personal gain. I have resolved to serve Indian society, and work for the protection of secular values.”
The names of prominent leaders from Rae Bareli appear on the poster. They are Pandit Gaya Prasad Shukla, Dr Mohammad Muslim, Sunita Chauhan, Kamal Nayan Verma, RP Singh, Vinod Mishra and Pandit Uma Shankar Mishra. Sonia Gandhi’s representatives Kishori Lal Sharma and Manoj Mattoo on Sunday opened an eye relief camp in the new Lucknow Public School.
The camp is managed by the founder of the school CP Singh. The patients registered for operations in the camp will be taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Munshiganj (Amethi), from here. This hospital provides facilities like the ones available at Arvind Eye Hospital, Madurai.
YC plans long motorcade to Rae Bareli
THE STATE unit of the Youth Congress has planned a long motorcade from Lucknow to Rae Bareli for Congress president Sonia Gandhi who will address her electorate on March 28.
Senior party leaders, including UPCC chief Salman Khurshid and UP affairs incharge Ashok Gehlot, will accompany her to Rae Bareli. She will be visiting her constituency for the first time after resigning from the Lok Sabha last week.
Talking to newspersons here on Sunday, national general secretary Kameshwar Patel and State Youth Congress chief Nadeem Ashraf Jaisi said the organisation had made elaborate arrangements to give a rousing reception to Gandhi.
Referring to her resignation, Patel said Rajya Sabha member and industrialist Anil Ambani had learnt a lesson and SP general secretary Amar Singh should follow him. Patel said Sonia Gandhi was an embodiment of sacrifice, adding that her example should be emulated by others in public life. Jaisi said her resignation had exposed those making tall claims about probity in public life. He said all MPs holding offices of profit should resign, adding Sonia Gandhi was committed to eradicating corruption.
