The president of Van Raksha Samity of Balidih was shot dead unidentified assailants at Dubrajpur in Jharkhand's Saraikela-Kharswan district this morning.
The president of Van Raksha Samity of Balidih was shot dead unidentified assailants at Dubrajpur in Jharkhand's Saraikela-Kharswan district this morning, police sources said.
30-year-old Sunil Singh Monda was returning home in Swarnarekha dam colony in Chandil from Chowka on a motorcycle when the assailants shot him dead, sources said.
The killers then brutally crushed Munda with stones and escaped, sources said.
Munda, who was reportedly a supporter of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.
The identity of the criminals and the motive behind the killing was not known, police said adding that a massive hunt was on to apprehend the culprits.
Meanwhile, protesting the killing of Munda, the enraged villagers put up road blockade at Chandil disrupting road traffic between Tata-Ranchi for hours.
The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and adequate compensation to victim's family.
The blockade was withdrawn when senior police officials assured that the culprits will be booked soon.
