President, PM greet nation on Baisakhi

President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have greeted the nation on the occasion of Baisakhi, the harvest festival, to be celebrated on Sunday.

Patil in her message said: "I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow countrymen and particularly to those who are engaged in agriculture and cultivation.

"May this harvest festival bring peace, happiness and prosperity to our people and to the nation."

In his message Manmohan Singh said the harvest festival is an occasion to rejoice over the fruits of our farmer's toil.

It is not only an occasion for joy and celebration but also an occasion to be grateful to nature for its bounty, he said, according to an official communiqué.

"May these festivals usher a year of prosperity and happiness for all," the prime minister hoped.
