“It is high on rhetoric. How will they achieve what they promised? These grand words look good in a party manifesto, but not in the president’s speech,” senior leader Veerappa Moily said.

Echoing Moily’s views, former Union minister Kamal Nath said: “It is the enunciation of the dreams and hopes which you have seen in the marketplace in the last three months.”

CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said the speech has only expressed intention not the solution. He also pointed out that unlike the previous UPA government, the address did not mention the 100-day target of the NDA.

“They have not set out a 100-day target. The last government in 2009 had declared the target but could not fulfil it. That is why perhaps they have not set the target. It is once bitten, twice shy,” he said.
