President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday unveiled the statue of legendary woman warrior from Karnataka Kittur Rani Chennamma in the Parliament House complex.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and Leader of Opposition LK Advani were among those present on the occasion.

Kittur Rani Chennamma was the queen of the princely state of Kittur in Karnataka and is remembered as one of the earliest rulers to have opposed the British tax collection system.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi, senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Venkaiah Naidu and Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh were also present at the function.
