The city administration has extended the deadline till October 31 for the private security agencies to obtain licences to operate their firms as per the norm of the Haryana government.
Out of around thousands, only 197 firms have applied for the licences since September 2010, when the state government introduced the Haryana Private Security Agencies Rules to check the mushrooming "fly-by-night" security company operators. Among the applicants, only 28 have got the licence in the state.
The agencies which have not obtained the licence to operate after September 30 were asked to withdraw their guards from various installations.
The decision to extend the deadline came on Monday after a delegation of security agencies led by Kunwar Vikram Singh, chairman of the Association of Private Detectives of India and director of the World Association of Detectives, met Gurgaon police commissioner SS Deswal.
"Many of us have applied for the licence and have deposited all necessary documents but it is the ADGP office that is sitting on our applications. Only a handful of agencies in Gurgaon have been issued licenses," Singh said.
