The wife of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Rajesh Manjhi has written to Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee asking him to probe her allegation that he was having an extramarital affair.
Manjhi's wife Premila Devi says that she has been neglected by her husband and has been living in poverty with her three children in Saishtabad village of Jehanabad district, 50 km from Patna.
Manjhi is a Dalit leader from Musahar community, considered one of the poorest and most backward in Bihar. He was elected as MP in 2004 and started living with a woman soon after, Premila has said.
The two were married in 1994, and Premila is now planning to approach not just the National Human Rights Commission and National Women's Commission but also RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Manjhi has denied the allegations and said it was part of a conspiracy to damage his political career.
