Professor dies after taking sleeping pills in excess

A COLLEGE professor died owing to consumption of an excessive dose of sleeping pills at his house on Sunday. Police said Rakesh Ranjan, 43, was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state and died while undergoing treatment. He had taken a high dose of sleeping pills on Saturday, police said.

Ranjan was professor with a private engineering college and has been depressed for quite sometime, police said. Aishbagh police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

In a separate incident, an unidentified man was found dead in Sukhi Sewania on Sunday. The deceased who appears around 40 years old was found dead near Kamal’s house in Chopra Kalan village. The police are investigating the cause of death.

Mini bus crushes woman to death
A WOMAN was hit to death by a reversing mini bus in Kolar area on Sunday morning. Police said Chandrakala, 30, wife of Anand Rao, a native of Katangi (Balaghat), was standing beside the road near DK Honey Homes on Kolar Road in the morning when a mini bus MP 04/7860 stopped there.

Chandrakala worked as a daily wage labourer at a construction site here. The bus driver fled the spot leaving the bus. The Kolar police have registered a case and are looking for the driver.
