A 38-year-old property dealer has been arrested for allegedly cheating a businessman of around Rs 9 crore by selling him government land.
The property dealer, Pawan Solanki, is a resident of Uttar Pradesh and ran his business out of Noida and Delhi, police said.
Police said they were looking for three accomplices of Solanki who helped him con the businessman identified as Ajay Chaudhary.
The accused allegedly sold government land in south Delhi's Jorbagh and Mayfair Garden areas using forged documents.
Harendra Singh, additional DCP (Economic Offences Wing), said Solanki was picked up from Noida after Chaudhary, a resident of Vasant Kunj, filed a cheating case.
"Chaudhary said Solanki and his associates had entered into an agreement with him for the sale of land in Jorbagh and Mayfair Garden for R20 crore," Singh said.
He said Chaudhary in his complaint said that he was shown documents that had signatures and stamps of DDA officials, after which he paid around R9 crore as advance payment .
Investigation conducted by inspector Ajay Kumar revealed that the vacant plot in Jorbagh belonged to the ministry of civil aviation.
"Regarding the second property at Mayfair Garden, the DDA had cancelled the allotment to the first owner and allotted it in the name of a second buyer. However, the accused fabricated documents to show that the property was restored to the first allottee and got sale deeds executed in favour of the complainant. Investigation revealed that all the documents related to the restoration of the property were forged," added Singh.
