Voter ID cards and enrollment in the voters list through post offices will soon be a reality at least in Andhra Pradesh if the Election Commission (EC) approves a proposal for the same.
The Department of Post has approached the commission after its success of the pilot project launched in Hyderabad ahead of the just concluded elections.
The procedure is simple: submit the relevant application form in the nearest post office and Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC), after the verification process, will be at your door step in 30 days.
After Hyderabad, this process is likely to be scaled across 26 cities in Andhra Pradesh as permission is being sought from the poll panel in this regard.
The proposal has been sent by Andhra Pradesh Postal Circle and was submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
Post Master General, Business Development, AP Postal Circle, Sandhya Rani, said summary revision is a continuous process and the Department has submitted a proposal in connection with revision of electoral rolls and issue of EPICs across the state.
The pilot project, involving 213 post offices, had covered 23 Assembly seats under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). So far 1.76 lakh EPICs had been issued between April and May another 3 lakh applications received for the purpose.
