The Biju Janata Dal, an ally of BJP and PMK, a coalition partner of UPA, had left their respective fronts, and come to the ‘left front´, Bardhan told a meet-the-press programme here

‘UPA has ceased to be a formation contesting election. Each partner of the UPA is contesting on its own and against each other,´ Bardhan said.

In Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi party of Mulayam Singh, which had rescued the UPA during the Trust vote, was now engaged in a ‘bitter fight´ with the Congress, he alleged.

In Kerala, the left parties showed resilence to overcome their differences and come together solidly as a ‘cohesive´ front.
