Tremendous hard work, a Chinese rubber band, and numerology may well have played a big part in badminton star Saina Nehwal hat-trick win of badminton titles at the Indonesian Open Super Series.
Talking to HT City after Saina’s spectacular win on Sunday, her father Dr Harvir Singh said, “She used to wear a
rudraksh
that her mom had gifted her but since it broke, Saina’s been sporting a Chinese rubber band that seems to be lucky. The month of May and June are also extremely lucky for her. She started her career in May 1999 and all the major titles that she has won have all been all in these two months.”
The 20-year-old champion got Bollywood abuzz on Twitter. Actor Abhishek Bachchan tweeted, “Way to go girl.” Actor Shilpa Shetty wrote, “Good to see girls from our country come up in the world of sports.” While Karan Johar, Rahul Bose and Riteish Deshmukh praised her, actor Anupam Kher added a word of caution: “Hope the ad world doesn’t take over her life and game.”
