IN A bid to check the spread of dengue and chikungunya the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday warned public institutions of action if they fail to implement measures as per its directives.
Besides serving individual notices, BMC has issued directives through public notice to owners of hotels, hostels, nursing homes, educational institutions, cinema halls and so on. BMC Commissioner Manish Singh said strict legal action as per the clauses of the Municipal Corporation Act would be taken in case of violation of these directives.
Singh said the municipal mobile court would visit such areas within a couple of days. The BMC has directed owners of such places to keep campuses clean and remove stagnant water, apart from spraying chemicals. Stagnant water in coolers and other pots should be removed immediately and efforts should be made to provide safe drinking water.
The BMC has asked these places to carry out sanitation drives and throw garbage at a suitable place. It said penal action under Section 440 of the Municipal Corporation Act would be taken in case BMC officials find violation of these directives during inspection.

He urged the DEO to issue necessary directives to schools, which can take the help of the BMC for a clean up drive.
