The men who allegedly helped assemble the terror module responsible for the February 13 German Bakery blast in Pune were among the 29 Pakistan-based terrorists, including the perpetrators of 26/11, wanted in India.
The names of Syed Zabiuddin Ansari and Fayaz Kagzi, former members of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India, were on the list Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao had given her Pakistani counterpart, Salman Bashir, when she visited Islamabad on February 25.
Rao had handed over three dossiers on terrorists. One of these contained a list of terror cases registered in India and involving people based in Pakistan. It also contained profiles of 29 terrorists India wanted Pakistan to hand over. Ansari is number 12 on this list, while Kagzi is number 13. A Home Ministry official in Delhi confirmed that the two men were named in the dossier.
“Both fugitives are in Pakistan and we have provided them (Pakistan) with details of their whereabouts,” said an officer from the ATS.
According to central security and intelligence agencies, Ansari and Kagzi had escaped to Pakistan after the Intelligence Bureau and the Maharashtra ATS had, in a joint operation in May 2006, seized 43 kg of RDX, along with AK-47 assault rifles, several rounds of ammunition and 50 hand grenades on the Nashik-Aurangabad highway.

After arresting Mirza Himmayat Baig (29) on Tuesday for allegedly planting the bomb at German Bakery, the ATS has found that the foundation of the terror module that targeted Pune was laid in Beed. Ansari, Kagzi and Baig belong to this Marathwada town, ATS sources said.
